Trump charges China

The US President Donald Trump will charge about $ 50 billion in Chinese imports in response to alleged thefts of US property rights, White House officials said on Thursday.

The new import duties will target industrial sectors «in which China sought advantage through unfair acquisitions or technology transfer by US companies,» White House chief economic adviser Everett Einchenstadt told reporters. Trump is due to unveil the sanctions later Thursday.

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that China could charge up to $ 60 billion in Chinese import duties in an attempt to stop what he sees as illegal competition from Beijing and theft of intellectual property.

US President Trump on the other hand was careful to say that China is a «friendly» country, adding that he had great respect for President Xi Jinping and had an excellent personal relationship with him.
